London Skolars’ Championship 1 game was called off at 2.25pm when the pitch was deemed unplayable. Match Commissioner John Connolly and referee Peter Brooke deciding that there were rutted areas that made the pitch too dangerous to be played on.
Skolars had been unable to work on the pitch since their game against Oldham due to the heavy rain over the last fortnight. A Skolars’ spokeman commented. “The bad weather has meant that the pitch hasn’t been rolled and with rapid grass growth over divots created at the Oldham game, that’s exacerbated the problems. The match commissioner and match officials looked at a number of avenues, including alternative pitches, to the get the game to go ahead, unfortunately there were no viable options. It’s disappointing for the game to be postponed at such late notice, both for the travelling contingent from South Wales and for our fans, some of which also have significant journeys from the other side of London to get here”.
A new date for the game will be announced in due course.
