Will it be the Long Good Friday for Skolars or Hemel?

17th April 2014

Skolars face local rivals Hemel Stags at Pennine  Way on Friday, KO 2.30pm in a eagerly awaited Kingstone Press Championship One fixture.

Hemel Stags are still missing Ben Thorburn (knee).

Troy Perkins, coach of Hemel Stags said: “There’s a fair bit of history between the two clubs. London have been the professional club in the area for a long time and we’ve aspired to get to that level.

“There’s a lot of feeling between the two teams and a healthy rivalry. There’s a lot of players that have played for both club, and they’ll all be out to do well against their former club.

“They’ve a good pack with a lot of Super League experience and that’s where their strength is. Our forwards have to be up for it and ready.”

Skolars coach Joe Mbu has no new injury concerns ahead of the clash.

Mbu said: “Rivals is probably the best way to describe the clubs, but our heads are screwed on – we know how important it is to pick up the points this week.

“In the second half against South Wales we showed what we could potentially be, but it’s easy to put up a good performance once in a while; the challenge is to perform like that every week.”

Three Skolars players were named in the Kingstone Press Championship 1 team of the week following their performances against South Wales Scorpions: Matt Bradley, Martyn Smith and James Woodburn-Hall.
